WATI vs 360Dialog vs Twilio: Which WhatsApp API Provider Actually Wins

I get asked this constantly by small business owners who want to automate WhatsApp and have no idea where to start. The honest answer is that WATI WhatsApp API, 360Dialog, and Twilio are not really competing on the same field, and picking the wrong one wastes weeks of setup time. Here is what I have learned building automations on top of all three.

WATI WhatsApp API: built for people who do not want to code

WATI sits on top of the official WhatsApp Business API and wraps it in a dashboard normal humans can use. If you run a small team and want chatbots, broadcast lists, and a shared inbox without hiring a developer, this is the fastest path. The WATI WhatsApp API pricing is bundled into a monthly plan, so you are not staring at a usage bill that changes every month.

The tradeoff is flexibility. WATI is great until your automation needs something custom, like pulling live inventory data into a message or routing conversations based on a CRM field. At that point you are working inside their template system instead of writing your own logic.

360Dialog: the raw pipe with none of the polish

360Dialog gives you access to the WhatsApp Business API itself with almost no interface on top. You get a phone number and an API key, and you build everything else. It is cheap per message and it is the choice if you already have a developer or an agency (like ours) building the automation layer for you.

What surprises people is that 360Dialog is not actually a WhatsApp alternative, it is closer to WATI's foundation without the dashboard. Several tools, WATI included, are built on providers like this one underneath.

Twilio: the enterprise option most small businesses do not need

Twilio's WhatsApp API is solid, well documented, and used by companies running SMS, voice, and WhatsApp together at scale. The problem for a small business is that Twilio charges you their fee on top of Meta's messaging fee, and the setup assumes you already have engineers comfortable with their console. Unless you need WhatsApp unified with other channels in one platform, you are paying for capability you will not use.

How Esipick actually uses these

We have deployed automations on WATI and on raw API providers, and our take is simple: WATI WhatsApp API is the right call when a client wants something running this week and does not have technical staff. We build the flows, hand over the dashboard, and they can edit templates themselves later. When a client needs deeper logic, like syncing WhatsApp replies into their own booking system or triggering messages from a database event, we go straight to the API layer instead of fighting WATI's built in rules. We learned this the hard way on an early project where we tried to force a complex booking flow through a no code tool and ended up rebuilding it from scratch on the API directly.

What to actually pick

Most small business owners overthink this decision. Start with WATI, get your automation live, and only move to a raw API provider once you hit a wall the dashboard cannot solve.
