I get the appeal. I've wanted to build that version too. But after years of putting automation into real businesses, I've learned that clever is a trap, and boring is the thing that actually survives contact with production.

Clever automation is a demo, not a system

A clever automation is impressive in a fifteen minute walkthrough. It handles the happy path beautifully, it looks like magic, and everyone in the room nods. Then it goes live, meets a slightly malformed input, an API that's down, or a human who does something unexpected, and it breaks in a way nobody predicted. Worse, it often breaks silently, because clever systems tend to have more moving parts, and more moving parts means more places for something to quietly go wrong without anyone noticing until the damage is done.

The businesses we work with don't need a system that impresses people once. They need a system that keeps running when nobody is watching it, week after week, without anyone having to babysit it.

What boring actually means

Boring doesn't mean unsophisticated. It means the system does exactly what it says it does, every time, and when something goes wrong it fails in a way you can see and fix, not a way that quietly corrupts data or sends the wrong email to a customer. Boring automation is:
